I have scanned the first two diary files very quickly. I love them! On July 3, 1928, the day before Uncle John was born, Grandma wrote in a very matter-of-fact way that she churned butter and canned 12 quarts of beans. The next day she wrote with a tiny bit more excitement and summarized a news report about the birth.

I see references to McCallums, including the death of Old John McCallum. I assume Grandma was referring to John McCallum of Ortonville, MN, who was born on Lismore in 1847 and died in 1927. He was the brother of Isabel McCallum who married Grandpa Tiffany’s uncle, John McDougall (b. 1837.) John McCallum of Ortonville appears in the letters many times, along with Grandpa Tiffany’s great uncle in Scotland and distant cousins by the same name. Grandma’s records will provide some added dimensions to the McDougall letters.

Thanks so much for doing this. Keep the scans coming!

    Love, Aunt Dondee
